Lessons of 2018.

2018 has been the most amazing year of my life. I believe I said that about 2017, well I had not seen 2018 yet. Don’t blame me.

It was not void of pain and sorrow or tears. I had it all. The heartbreaking moments, the disappointments and the failures, but it was all worth it because it all presented an opportunity for me to learn and be a better person. This year, I was more intentional about my life so I was more of a learner than a victim.

Here are some lessons I would love to share with you.

1. Without God you can do something but with him you can do everything.
This year, I resolved to do nothing without God. Trust me when I say, it is the best decision I have ever taken in my life. I said “let your will be done Lord ” on first of January and did not make any other resolution. It has been the year I have been able to do so much.

He brings such ability and agility no man can give. He makes a way where there seems to be no way. All things are possible with him and he is a great planner.

2018 was the year I let go and let God and he did not fail me. He was just awesome. You should try it. Leave everything to God. Let God lead you in everything you do. Life is beautiful when God is your lead.

2. Be kind.
I saved myself a lot of heartache when I purposed in my heart to be kind. Don’t think or look too far. Begin with yourself.

Be kind to yourself. Be gentle to yourself. Say words of encourangment to yourself when you fail. Feed yourself well. Desist from anything that causes you pain.

Now extend that same grace to others.

3. People who will accept you just the way you are.
For most parts of my life, I was trying to fit in. Being the church girl I was raised to be, I felt I had to be a certain kinda girl in order to be accepted. I was wrong.

It was hard putting an end to being someone else and being me but it was worth it. Now I feel the love more because I know they aren’t loving my “sorta – kinda” , they are loving me just as I am. Deal was to accept the crazy version of me and love anyway. It’s been an amazing journey loving myself and getting to know myself.

4. No one cares.
The hard truth I learnt this year was that, no one cared. People will sympathise with you when they need to and would want to help you in some way but no one really cares, not as much as you can. So if you have something to do, do it.

Your life remains your life and what you decide to do with it remains your decision. Do what is best for you.

By the way,
This is to all the young people who have just a phone as their possession and an empty bank account and yet make noise about haters. Do you honestly believe there is anything to hate about you? If you want haters, strive to get classic ones. Work hard, become successful and get genuine haters and flaunt them all you want. As you are now, no one cares. Stop the nonsense and use the energy you are wasting on haters to do something productive.

5. You can do everything you want to do.

Nothing can stop you unless you do. Learn about what you want to do and begin. Don’t end with just plans. Do the needful. Start work.

6. Genuine friendship is everything.

This year I experienced amazing friendship and commitment and it was everything I could wish for.

A friend said, great people make the world go round and I believe that was a gospel truth. My world revolved so much because I had such people.

The deal breaker however is that, you have to be the friend you want in others. Be a good friend yourself and it shall be your portion. Offer genuine help, care, support and friendship and see that manifest in your life as well.

Goodbye 2018, you were amazing. Welcome 2019, be good.

2019 is going to be a great year for me and I wish it will be better for you. We shall not abort purpose. We shall reign.

I am grateful that you are in my life and I get to travel the life journey with you.

Advise for 2019.
Time is an illusion, says Nesta. Think about it.

Happy New year in advance guys. I love you. Don’t forget to live.

With love,

Afiya.
