Hello, fam,
We are already well into January. Unlike what we expected, January is coming along rather too quickly. Too quick for comfort if you ask me. It won’t stop us from doing the things we ought to do, neither will its speed give us a panic attack of any sort.
I love how God is dealing with me this year or should I say currently. He is speaking to me a lot and I can only be grateful. Seeing today’s date, 18th made me do a mental calculation of all the needs to be done and I must confess I did get quite a scare and like magic, my devotion today was just about time and how to slow it in Christ.
I mention devotion and I smile to my self because so far I am doing a great job and the mighty one is helping me big time.
Let’s talk about today’s post. Don’t worry, all of the above is as relevant.
I mentioned in a previous post that I was going to do more planning and writing visions and a lot of self-care stuff this year. Here are some of the plans or goals I have for this year, in no particular order:
1. Prioritize self-care.
I have come to understand that “self-care” refers to the activities you do or apply to your life to make your life better, and not necessarily things you do for immediate gratification. That includes the mind, body, and soul. I plan to make self-care a lifestyle and practice it with due diligence. Here are a few of the things I intend to do as far as prioritizing self-care is concerned.
1. Be consistent with prayer and devotion.
Self-care is not only a physical activity. It also spiritual and mental. It’s basically taking care of your mind, body, and soul. I plan to make conscious efforts to seek God this year through prayer and devotion, for the edification of my spirit, soul and essentially my body.
2. Start journaling.
I love diaries. I have at least three on me at any given time but I don’t like journaling. I love to write but not exactly my thoughts. I hate to be negative and unfortunately, anytime I would have a desire to journal will be when I have issues that turn to be very dark thoughts and I end up not writing. This year I want to practice journaling daily, dark thoughts or not. I have read how liberating and great it is, I can’t wait to see how my life will turn for good by engaging in this practice.
3. Get a skincare routine.
I love my skin, I have fallen in love with it and I want to see it at its best. I am deciding to get a routine, pay more attention to it and get it to be as healthy as possible.
4. Get a hair routine.
My hair will be three years old in February since my big chop in 2017. How time flies! I can count on one finger the number of times I have applied any product in the name of having a routine. I have none, I don’t use any product and I certainly don’t have any hair manners (is there even a thing like that, lol) I have never slept with a scarf and I don’t do a lot of things. To be fair, my hair habit is the worst. My hair is a gift from God, I have to treat it better and I will. Jo Nketiah uses a quote often, it says, ” I am love and support poured into a person”. I want my hair’s growth to be the pictorial evidence of this quote.
5. Sleep.
Maybe a traumatic experience caused me not to be able to sleep or maybe I just can’t sleep. I am yet to figure out what is wrong but whatever it may be, I plan to be conscious about sleeping. Basically, just remind me to get some sleep.
6. Etc.
Lol, but on the real, there are a lot of other things, exercise, eating healthier, so yeah, etc.
2. Travel.
I wish to travel and visit places as much as possible this year, beginning with my beautiful country Ghana. I can’t wait to share my adventures with you.
3. Read, read, read.
Last year, I fell out of the habit of reading. I could not bring myself to read. It’s gradually picking up and I don’t want to destroy it with unrealistic goals. I am going to read as many books as I can this year. The goal will be as liberal, just read, no numbers.
4. Harness my other talents.
I have finally accepted that I am an artistic soul and I am no longer in conflict with God over why he will give someone so much. If anything, I will be praising him. I plan to work towards building them and also deciding which will stay as a hobby and which will be mainstream.
5. Write stories.
I want to write more and I plan to write a series or a couple of them. This is more of a wish than a resolve.
There are many more, most of which I am praying about and keeping between me and God till their manifestation. Let’s say the aforementioned are the ones I want you in on for now so we do it together. If you got any tricks on pursuing any of the above, let your girl know.
You now see why the temptation to panic is present. I am, however, going to make it one day and step at a time. No stress at all.
I will be giving updates on how the journey is going. I pray it’s a smooth one but I won’t mind a few huddles, I am game.
Do you also have things you are pursuing this year? This post is to let you know that the little things matter too. Kindly share.
Xoxo,
Afiya.
